Next year's Bash will be in Lauder, Borders.
Very exotic, Just up the road from my place. Don't all drop in for a cuppa at the same time.
Tony
PS: I expect Muz will be at this one. Plenty of horses around for Muzette to ride, they say that there are more horses than people in the Scottish Borders.

Some good photos indeed, our avatar picture was taken down Glen Etive, first day of ownership and first trip in our Freda
Thought I'd add our trip report
Thursday afternoon after a long shift at work and a ridiculously short sleep we headed off up north.
Didn't think we'd make it as far as Gairloch though, north of Fort Bill was our target,a few places to stop
in mind.We done well for time and made it all the way to Torridon just over 30 miles away, knew a spot
to park with a good walk for the dog in the morning
Awoke early in the morning, quick bite to eat then off to walk the dog
Gairloch in the distance

On the summit another walker appeared and asked if that was my bongo down there and then said that he had one as well,
Chris who'd heard of Bongofury but wasn't a member joined us for the rest of the walk(and popped in to Gairloch later for a look)
maybe see him at a future meet,Red Squirrel anyone
The rest of the walk ahead(Sgurr Mhor and the Horns of Alligin)

The deep cleft in the hill is called Eag Dhubh na h-Eigheachd(the black notch of the wailing)
legend is it was named by local shepherds who for many years had heard wailing and cries of anguish from the area, when one of
them went to investigate he tragically fell to his death and the sounds were never heard again
Looking back
There's a wild camp spot down there
A short drive to the campsite and a good weekend lay ahead,
A long way to travel for some folks but I hope you all left with good memories

I think I have to repeat on here what a joy it is to have Matt and his 4 year old Navigator at our bashes. It made my weekend to hear that the navigator had said after seeing so many spectacular views "Daddy my heart is going to die because my amaze tank is so full it is going to burst!"
Matt's venison stew and rhubarb crumble were to die for!
The butteries were delicious too! Thanks to Colin and Paula and Sharon and Jimmy for bringing them.
It was good to meet so many new people and we look forward to another meet soon.
We think that the photo of David hiding behind the paper makes it look as if it is him that is the 92 year old!
Happy camping and catch up soon
Chrissy

Ian,
Kelso, or Peebles are nicer towns with better places of interest, with more shops/pubs etc if it has to be the Borders area, they may be worth a look before setting Lauder in stone.

Last time the Scottish Bongo Bash was held in the Borders was at Peebles in 2007. Ian and Marion used to live in the Kelso area for a while I believe, so going there would be a bit like going home again for them.

I visited the Lauder site last Monday and it fully meets our criteria. So I have made a provisional booking for 30 slots. But it's not set in stone. But I do have to make a decision fairly quickly on all 2014 meetings.

I'm quite happy to have a discussion about it. But as I said elsewhere we've been to visit the Lauder site and they have they can accommodate us on the dates available. It's within walking distance of town and lots of things are within driving distance. Plus there are good walks and bike rides nearby.
The sites at Jedburgh are no good I'm afraid, either too small or too far.
An initial enquiry at the Kelso site was not met with much enthusiasm, and it's poor walking country. But a nice town and house.
We've been to Peebles before, good site, but fancied somewhere different.
As I said, nothing booked yet, so happy to discuss.

We plan to visit Scotland again next year, so Borders will suit us very well.
We'll start at the Bash and spend a couple of weeks moving south.

Anywhere in the borders would suit me fine not too much of a drive.

Choice depends on what the majority want to do when they get here. Just sit around for a chat and a drink on the campsite, go shopping, go for a drive or take part in an activity. If we stay on the East site of the Scottish Borders I would recommend on a clear day that you climb the Eldon Hills if you are fit enough. Standing on their own these hills afford a 360° panorama, the best viewpoint in the Scottish Borders yet they are not very high. Years ago when climbing them myself I overtook a coachload of French pensioners making their way to the top, I guess that they would beat me to the top now.
