Mike.... many places stock spiral wrap.... Maplin's do it but their's is clear.... but the Black can be got from Motor Factors. Demon Tweeks, Car Builder sites and the venerable EvilBay...

To answer your next question.... yes it can be unwound should a cable need to be investigated and replaced.
I agree too on your comment about sound wiring.... the wiring should always be sound before you then wrap it to make a tidy job of the under bonnet or wherever.

Hi
Now that the MOT is strict on wiring, I'm wondering about dangly bits added after the MOT....and would an insurance company get in a strop and not pay out over something added between tests if they thought it was "dicky" ???....I usually add wiring, test out the new fitment and permanently secure it once I'm satisfied...BUT, in the meantime, I do tape to existing cable runs every 4-5 inches with a few twists of insulating tape until later....which means I still have access if not yet happy, and need to change summat!
Cheers
Helen

loose wires............ RESOLVED

Post by Purple Pixie » Mon Jun 17, 2013 4:17 pm

I spoke to the electrician who did the wiring I have posted about (he is NOT a JAL employee, the job was subbed out to him by JAL)

Hi John
It was good talking to you today, I am sorry you have had problems with the Bongo, and your points were very helpful.

We have changed how the fog light wire is fitted, and I can send you some conduit, that we started using.

The wiring will also, not be as "tight" by the air filter, I am at present looking as to a way to improve how the coolant alarm wiring is secured behind the dash, tying it up close to the dash board is not really ideal, and we will be coming up with a solution.

As stated on the phone all in Worcester, are not happy when we have a customer who has had a poor experience with us.

Thank you for your input, and please send your address to allow me to send the conduit. Thank you also for your offer, of which we except, to put that we have resolved these issues on Bongo Fury.

Should you ever need help or advice regarding the Bongo, do not hesitate to contact us.

Ummm ..

Your wires by the air box look identical to mine .. no grommets .. pulled taught .. and mine was delivered to the first UK owner July2009 and local to me .. (I bought it from him November 2011) ..

Mind you your post proves the 'power' / respect / high esteem dealers hold for Bongo Fury recommendation ..

Over time I have noticed several posts from new members .. some only posting a couple of times on how marvellous a particular dealer is .. then disappear never to post again ..

I often wonder if these dealers actually ask the purchasers to get them a positive mention on Bongo Fury ... maybe even offer 'mates rates' when they need something ..??

Colleagues

Our man in Worcester (see above) was very apologetic and I think he was genuinely sorry for the problems I encountered, I understand that "words have been said" to the minions responsible for the problems and that changes to installation practice are resultant!

I still await a real apology from our man Phil at JAL, we are pretty much totally happy with our purchase and thank the listers on this forum for valuable guidance with regards to his slightly unorthodox and distanced sales technique HOWEVER these electrics issues, though not directly of his making, are yet to produce an apology, which does disappoint me considering we put nearly £10k his way ..... in an email to me in response to the forum posts he appeared more concerned about the negative publicity associating JAL with "cowboy electricians" than for the problems we had encountered which resulted in my postings. Maybe that is his "house style"? We are still besotted with "Purple Pixie" and I think anyone else going to JAL will be equally happy.

I'll report back should a text or email include that magic word...... "sorry"

Thus for rediffusion via the jungle telegraph.....

Regards

Dr B

Let's hope that dealers tidy up the wiring they install from now on and any Bongo owners with coolant alarms and other gadgets do the same before their next MOT gets a failure notice

The gaffer at J.A.L. texted to apologise for the problems I had experienced with the 3rd party wiring

I must emphasise that we have always been happy with the Ford Freda we got from J.A.L. and even though we were not bribed in any way I will say I would recommend them to others

Regards

John
