One think to consider is the coolboxes from Asda etc at £8 dont last one the same Igloo one is about £25 to 30 but should last 16 hours with the correct cool block

Although we'd love a proper fridge it'll be a cool box for us ( unless we win the lottery). Think we'd just turn it off at night.

I bought a sensor and easily made a device where you can stick the sensor into the coolbox and set the device to cut the motor once down to temp. Results were pleasantly surprising. Cooling motors not needed at all at night if left in the awning on a chilly night and provided it is kept out of sun, in a breeze etc the motors may only need to run 50-70% of the time in the day. Tricks like evaporative cooling (wet towel draped over coolbox) could also be used to good advantage. And many items don't need mega-cooling to last well (cravendale milk, butter, cheese, Bacon, real ale etc.)

Hi,

I use one of the Waeco Tropicool units. Not the cheapest coolbox around, but you get what you pay for. Thermostatic control, very quiet (though I am a bit deaf) and strong enough to sit on. Lasts for a long weekend without running the engine for an LB recharge.

I cool it and the contents down in the house on mains before I set off then transfer it to Bongy.

For a weekend it is great, but if you plan to be away from civilisation for more than that I think the only way to go is a proper 3 way fridge.
Only problem with those is you can't move them around.

Peter
