I have updated the subject now as I have booked an appointment to get a cat bypass pipe fabricated in stainless, that will give me chance to get the catalyst equipped setup welded up for the MOT, I emailed Janspeed via their website and had no response, I got a reply from a Longlife
http://www.longlife.co.uk/ agent
And "to make a decat pipe for your ford freda will cost £99 inc vat and fitting."

I rang Longlife's HQ and was told in no uncertain terms that he is a very proficient fabricator despite his facial piercings! They did observe that certain other operations were more suited to mass production than custom jobs
I will give a warts and all review over the weekend, I'll talk to him about finding and welding up the leak(s) in the existing system too.... I am well versed in exhaust matters but not a good enough welder to "build my own" .... and £100 plus petrol is precious to me so I will be a fair but firm customer!

looking at your flicker file it looks like he has put the wrong end on HIS new piece.
the flange faces meet before they seal on the ceramic gasket, it cannot possibly seal.
starting from the engine end, the pipe should slip inside the next pipe a mm or 2 to stop this happening. look at your old connection it has a flat face with no recess for the ceramic to sit into.
ive seen several stainless exhausts that leave off the gearbox mount (god knows why) its possibly needed more as its more brittle.

spot on, asking him to refit the bracket AND replace the end with a clamping face that matches the end on the catalyst section removed!....
