OK, getting back to the fitting of the belt....

I thought on inspection that also my alternator belts (especially the one on the inside towards the engine) looked a bit iffy, & do all three at the same time.. The compressor belt goes on the outside!
Soooo, my order for two new alt belts came through this morning BF.. =D>

Does the alternator just loosen on its mountings sliding towards the engine, allowing the belts to be removed/replaced..?
Is there some sort of torque setting for the bolts holding the alternator & thus the belts tension??

I plan to "man up" tomorrow & have a crack at this...!

I don't plan on furthering this thread with a load of   #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o 's

just get an ordinary nut/bolt, put it through the adjuster slot jamie then put a lever behind and pull on the alternator, then nip it up.

mine snapped like that.
just weld a new bolt onto the broken end-------------sorted.

Cheers Ady nice one....

By the way, i managed to briefly test the AC compressor with the new belt on... On tick over it whined squeaked & complained.. Clocking it at about 2000rpm the damn thing nearly caught fire... Its seized all right!!!

take a good look inside the snapped off nut (backside) jamie, has it got teeth  , strange thing to say but i bet it has. repeated tightening/undoing seems to eat the bolt.

siezed unit, always good to get to the bottom of the issue =D> =D>

Ady, the back of the nut is smooth..

The compressor was smoking & throwing out sparks just behind the jockey wheel at the front of the units pump housing..!
I still have the smell in my van now... :P

I wondering if the compressors low position would mean its more subject to lube getting washed out when going through heavy flooded roads..? :-k Or just the usual wear & tear...?

Last time I looked, Bellhill were charging over £100 for an A/C compressor. I know there was one near Romsey last week with a chap called Simon (another one) 07967 514804.

Alternatively, try Kevin at Southern Bongos.

I was more into Bellhill for the alternator adjuster...

But yer right Simon about £146..?!! Add another ton or so from Japan..?

I'll settle for a decent quality reasonably priced used unit...
I've pretty much got my head round how an AC pump fits into the system... According to the gumf i've been looking up in the States you have to prime the pump with pag oil (that lube stuff?) before fitting..?

My plan is to get the AC guy back & drain the system. O:)
Fit the pump myself. Just three bolts, one wire connector & two pipes... (By the looks of it.?)
Then let the AC bloke check for leaks & recharge.. He owes me!!!

OK, my replacement AC compressor pump just turned up.. =D>

I plan to replace the thing myself after the AC guy has extracted the gas...

I have read up on priming the pump with pagg oil..? (is that right?) Do i need to worry about torque settings regarding tightening the pump to the side of the engine?? O ring seals on the AC pipe work to the pump???

Any tips??? :D
