These diagrams are better to see where the breather/vent pipes terminate, below the cap;

and if the cap cannot breath then niether can that breather pipe unless it has a hole in it

I noticed once that when filling the tank (with veg oil), once the level reaches up inside the filler neck, fuel comes out the breather pipe.

That's how it works Donald,the fuel will find a level in both pipes,just like visi gauge,or water level.It also lets you know that the vent is not blocked.

Doesn't tell you anything about the vent in the Cap however ! Just that the only path for air to get in to replace the used fuel is via the Cap vent of course which is where we came in about 20 messages ago!

nah.

the breather pipe back to the filler is the breather for filling the tank with fuel (fast fill). the tank breather is the working breather for when the cap is on and the engine is drawing fuel.
