Re: Red Squirrel 20th-22nd April
Glencoe last year.
Friday night: we all sat in our chairs around a camp fire chatting while reducing our supply of booze. Wood supplied by the campsite, smoke keeps the midges away. Bring some SMIDGE with you in case some manage to get through the smoke.
Saturday: Some went for a walk in the glen, Some climbed the surrounding mountains and some spent a relaxing day at a seafood restaurant besides Loch Linnhe.
Saturday night: Almost all of us walked a mile up the back road to spend the evening with the crowd at the Clachaig Inn. A few of use got stoned, especially our tame policeman and.co.
Sunday: What happens depends what time people go home. Mostly stand around chatting.
Intrested: Youngest is about five I think while the oldest is probably me at 70. Meets are one of the few arrangements these days when all the generations get together like they used to do in the old days.

Just to clarify..... the 5 year old did not get drunk (stoned), just in case you were worried that we were all members of some satanic debauched sect!

Really David, don't tell me there will be naked rock climbing going on this year. You had better leave your kids in Glasgow, we don't want to corrupt them.just in case you were worried that we were all members of some satanic debauched sect!

Blisco, and any others considering joining us, be not afraid!
The last meet at Glencoe was our first and you could not meet a more friendly, welcoming crowd of people. (apart from Dunslair who likes to arrive late and nick parking spaces!)
I was one of the ones that did not walk the mile to the pub, but kept the campfire burning!

Re: Red Squirrel 20th-22nd April
We should be there by late afternoon / early evening on the Friday.
I don't know what other activities people have got planned but myself and Muz Jr are planning to bike up the devil's staircase then on to blackwater reservoir and Kinlochleven before heading back and down the devil's staircase. Anyone else who wishes to join us are welcome however this will be a technically demanding cycle.
Mrs G will be taking her walking boots with her to do do a gentle walk unless the seafood restaurant lures her away.

I'm still doing Bank Holiday Weekend DIY, so our plans are now to come up on the Friday like normal people.

Do you not fancy the full Aonach Eagach Ridge by bike?The_Gordons wrote:We should be there by late afternoon / early evening on the Friday.

Erm, no.
From Wikipedia: "The slopes to each side are extremely dangerous, with steep grass and scree slopes hiding even steeper slopes which end in cliffs on both north and south sides of the ridge."

Well I suppose Muz junior could do it as he has the muscles. Me I would have to do a bit of body building first as at the moment I don't think that I am up to carrying my bike on my back almost all day.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer to ride my bike rather than carry it
Had enough of that last year on the Loch Lomond part of the West Highland Way
After a spot of filtering and bottling last night I have a bottle of Sloe Gin ready for the meet and Mrs G is looking at some tray bake recipes.

Apparently that pair of misguided fools were told "it was a good idea" in a pub one night, and once they'd started they carried on.
I love the looks they are getting from 'proper' mountaineers all roped up as they pass bits of bikes to each other!

As it happened we were in the Clachaig when they got down. It was just turning dark, and lets just say there was 'a bit of an atmosphere' in the group..........dave_aber wrote:Apparently that pair of misguided fools were told "it was a good idea" in a pub one night, and once they'd started they carried on.

Amusing as it is watching that Youtube video, it's a bloody dangerous way to spend the day. Glad they got down in one piece!

It was the most fantastic Autumn day.... if my memory serves me well, it think we had been up in the lost valley..... on foot! Going on the general mood, we had had a better time that daydave_aber wrote:Amusing as it is watching that Youtube video, it's a bloody dangerous way to spend the day.
