yep----------------- or fit a flat cap, or fit an old cap with the seat cut in half with a grinder.if you dont it will allow inflation but will not register the pressure drop as its held between the cap seal and the inflater valve/gauge.
or you can just remove the bleed pipe bung and inflate from this end, and test the cap at the same time.

That's how I see it - inflating to 12 - 15 psi proves nothing but the space between the bicycle valve and the pressure cap is leak free

it will inflate the system and show any leaks provided you look for them, but this will not be obvious from just looking at the gauge as the pressure wont drop.

any opinions welcome, the way i see it i have a 2nd head to rework over the forth coming year and if anything ever happens god forbid i wont have to flap like i am now!
i dont know if its worth the time/effort/money/risk to bother with any old head, ive seen several that have lifted after failing to the extent that they have pinched the cam shaft bearings and grabed/snapped the camshaft in several places, so im not sure a skim would be worthwhile.

ok thanks for your views i will see whats what when i get it off the road first i think pressure test the system as everyone has said lots of please it could be leaking my bongo isnt overheating or smoking so it may not be the head at fault i will check for leaks first and change the water pump and the stat i have new kit ready and i have just ordered a new set of hoses that should be here next Monday so i will change all that see how i go on, the only issue im having is about 800ml of water loss after two or three days hard use its not overheating so hopefully with these works sorted i can stop in leaking from somewhere.
Booked next thurday and friday off work so ill update everyone after that.

I find the dye test in the expansion tank to be pretty accurate - detects CO2 in the system

Good price. Some kits only allow the dye to be used once - the Sealy kit allows numerous attempts.
