for me it depends on the alcholic consumption, but this was last saturday when I collected the Bongo after work completion this is what he said, senior moments are more frequently occuring but I,m sure I did not misunderstand OR did I

Looking at the lush diagram here shows the pump is gear driven, and the cam is belt-driven from the pump.

In non technical terms whats it mean is Ian correct in what he said to me or not, confucious is rife. he who is educated above his intelligence has a cross to bear or is thick as two short planks. I leave it to you to define

If you are repeating Ian Taylor verbatim then he is wrong. As others have said, if the belt fails then you'll cause expensive damage to the engine. However, I personally believe that the Bongo belt is under less strain than a "conventional" crank to camshaft setup due to less torque applied to the belt but it can still fail due to perishing over time. My advice, for what it's worth, would be 100,000 km or 5 years - whichever comes first.
