Bongo Fury

That's unusual. Unless you were pressing very hard, or were running the drill at a gazillion rpm.

Was the area previously resprayed or repaired, or was it original paint?

Took it real slow, v careful. Was trying to remove secondary decals which had been placed over the where the original 4wd decals had been. Immediately switched to hairdryer, with much better results, but there is still v. old glue from the factory decals, that I really can't shift.

Anyways, the wheel was from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280638219810? ... 1439.l2649. Seems soft enough, and I took it as gently as possible. Paint came straight off.

Unlucky. That's the same sort of wheel I've used, and sounds like you were doing everything right. Maybe very old glue had eaten in and 'become one' with the paint ?

is a toffee wheel something that goes on a drill bit - im imaging it as a spinning sander thing? and is it something that you have to practise a bit to get it right??

Its a round block of rubber that goes on a drill,
I wouldnt say you had to practice it wont do any damage to the paint unless you put to much pressure on, but they are quick, and remove all the glue at the same time.
They do wear down quit quickly, so having a couple is a must.
Depending on the size of job.

I have video of me using a toffee wheel removing some stripes on a bongo i will try put it up for everyone.

would definitely be useful but now having read the other posts i dont think im brave enough to have a go. but will get them off this year one way or another

Have to agree with dave very unusual for that to happen unless its fresh paint or flacky old paint.


Due to age of the bongos what you find is that glue bakes into the paint,
Theres no way of sorting the problem other than a paint job,
Even with a good buff you will still see the outline.

Maybe that's it. She's a '95: that glue has been there a loooong time!

hi there, have just watched the youtube clip - brilliant. but my bongo is a 95 as well. do you think it will work or would it be a bit risky? my son has said he wont do it just incase so i think i might just have a go

All you can do is have a go,
To be honest iv used toffee wheels and never had the paint coming off unless its been used to hard,

righto - im going for it at the weekend - i assume a local hardware store will stock the toffee wheels things?

Iv always got mine from ebay, lol.

If your going to have a go and not sure try a small section first.
Start wil a little pressure then a little more untill the decals start to be removed
You will soon find the correct pressure,
if doing AFT decals take extra care.

Well, just watched the vid. Looks dead easy, but I wasn't using anything like that speed or force, and I was still on bare metal within seconds!

Lord knows what I was doing wrong, but will try again when Ruby returns from the garage sporting her replacement turbo..

aaaarrrrgghhhhhh stop scaring me!

ok, so toffee wheels arrived yesterday so thought i would give it a go today. have to say.....its hard work i decided to remove the 2 back stickers first (theyre a bit of a mess). have got 1 of so far though not sure about the results. doesnt look too bad but there are little patches that im hoping some t cut will fix. also have just had a go at the sticker on the roof and that is not going well at all -straight through to the paint. i think we will have to keep going and get it off and then the roof will need a respray - will this be done in situ or will the whole roof have to be removed??

If you unsure with the aft just use hair drier, it will take longer but better than making pigs ear if your unsure.
