Have had Pela pump sucking away for over an hour now in the sump of my 2.5 deisal bongo and its still not filled container, keep on giving a few extra pump ups but seems slow & yes the oil was hot before I started and the tube was inserted untill the end bottommed & then with drawn slightly, so how long should it normally take to empty the sump ? am I doing something wrong. :?

I expect that the above wording will attract innuendos so I`ll start off with the follwing
Missfixit would probably like something that would suck for an hour or more :wink: :wink:(no innuendos on this forum eh)

Over an hour sounds excessive.

It can be a slow process, but from memory it usually takes 20-30 mins max, including the refill.....

Have emptied the pela container of 3.5 litres, blew down the suction hose to make sure no obstruction & replaced the suction hose into the sump - pumped the pela 20 strokes - more oil seems to be coming out but slowly. will remove the sump drain plug & check if any oil remaining when think suffiently empty.
Prior to the oil change dipstick level at to mark so should be 6.5 litres of oil to remove might be less due to oil in filter

Update:- finally the pump emptied the sump over 2 hours. is there something wrong with the pump- should I send it back for a replacment - not happy as forum responses suggest max 30 minutes to drain the sump.whats going on?

Even half an hour is long time TBH. Was the oil warm? did you lift the hose slightly so it wasn't sucking onto the bottom? Did you keep pumping the vacuum every few minutes? Is there any damage on the hose? Was it drawing a vacuum properly?

Did`nt know that it required pumping up every few minutes but I did so anywa as it was taking so long to remove the oil, instructions do not specify this neither does the feedback on the forum, all it says is pump it up to 20 times, oil was warm, pulled hose back when it bottomed in the sump & it appeared that it was drawing a vacuum ok, completed the oil change at last and eventually it sucked out 6.5 litres of oil, did`nt bother to remove sump plug to check if all oil removed as certain it removed all of it.
If I complain and ask for a replacement it will be another year before its used again to check it out but will contact the supplier for advice;

Not sure why yours took so long, done loads of oil changes on mine & others with mine (pretty sure the instructions say to repeat the pumping of the vacuum, could be wrong though) never taken anywhere near that long, mebe try it with some soapy water or something (at least it'll give it a clean while you're at it :wink: ) to see if it's sucking ok?
Won't have helped that the oil will have cooled right down by the end if it too that long.
