Bongo Fury

Hi all
All back together. Took 5, 3 second cranks of the engine before fuel got through and it fired. What a great feeling. (not to mention relief)
Many thanks to all who helped verbally throughout (A BIG LIST)
All we have to do is bleed it now.

Not bad eh? Considering neither of us had atempted ANYTHING like this before.
Took some time though. We worked strictly to the manual, checking everything at least 3 or 4 times out of fear of getting it wrong.

Just thought I would round this one off with a summary pic.
It was a long hard job especially as I am not mechanically minded - but with someone who knows more about it and a manual, a lot of patience and the tremendous bank of knowldege on this site it can be done.
Good luck to all the other DIY head replacement people. Ours has had a polish up and a road test today and all seems well so far - I guess after open surgery we will need to be gentle....

Hi just a quick one,
After rebuilding my head iv got slightly lumpy start/smoke (not steam! ) on cold start.
Seems to be just like it was before i replaced my glowplugs about 6 months ago....would the overheating/water in cylinder caused some of the plugs to go duff/lazy?
definitely not fuel timing as that is spot on.
I know im gonna get told to go back to basics here......!!!
Thinking i should have changed the plugs when i did the head

Me too timmyt! At first I thought it was too much additive; but not after two other full tanks. I didn't bother testing the glows because they showed no signs of degradation.

Easy to change, maybe 20 minutes?

Just a quick follow up post for those that spotted my deliberate mistake - it is never really job done!
1 week on the road with no problems - changed the fuel and air filter, oil filter and change next week, and a coolant/temp alarm installed yesterday. Jobs done (for now )
