Exactly, if you don't know whether it's miles or KMs how would the MOT garage know which to record - they can only record KMs if you tell them to.

You need to drive a known distance of say 10 miles and see if it records as 10 (miles) or 16 (Kms).

I was assuming he was attempting to sort it out with the new owner.

So - To settle the argument they take the Bongo for a drive ....... etc. etc.

In any case - if the new owner now does that, they can answer their own question can't they - why do they need to ask Jamie?

PS In any case 2 - if Jamie doesn't know now what measurement the odometer was recording in why does the new owner think he's been mislead? Did he ask or did he just assume it was KM's not miles or what?
How can Jamie have told him anything he says he doesn't know, or did he say KM's but now he isn't sure?

The new owner will now the score... They are just trying to get a few quid back and trying to scare Jamie into a partial refund. Call their bluff and tell them you'll see them in court.

It's a bit of a pain to work out but i have to do a few sums to work out my actual MILEAGE, Mine came in with 63 kilometres on the clock, chipped, mileage unaltered, so then clocked in miles, so the mileage of my bongo is (roughly) 63,000kms Plus 50,000 miles = 89,000 miles.(give or take a few miles).

If it reads as miles & was chipped from kilometres just prior/on the first import MOT & reads miles on the document/s thereafter, & the buyer does the math as to the formula pointed out by our learned Mr Cain, then the new owner will discover the vehicle mileage is actually less than stated on the odometer...! 8)

Don't lose any sleep over it... It's not like he can say anything horrible on here!!

Hi
Ok a bit more info. When i got the car i was told that the odometer was kms. The man i got it from was the second owner from import the first been his brother.
So when i sold it the odometer read approx 112000 best of my knowledge kms. I've only used the car as a second car not really taking much notice of the reading other than how bad the mpg was.
So i sold it saying 112000kms or 68500 miles the guy came and viewed no test drive handed over £4750 and left.
24 hours later he emailed me saying the radio couldn't pick up his local station and the car was clocking miles and he wants £500 back or he will take me to court.
Now i feel he got a very cheap van anyway. 1998 r plate 4wd aft 12 months mot 10 months tax just serviced and rewaxoyled roofbars 18" alloys and rear ladder.
I kind of think he's trying it on. :(

Certainly sounds like a Try On to me, I'd sit back and let him make the next move.
