Also keen to hear of anybody who has had to replace their TURBO on the diesel engines at some point.

Being so hot here it is not uncommon to see the occasional turbo pouring smoke and costing it's poor owner many dollars to replace.

It might be worthwhile fitting a Turbo Timer.

I would upgrade the intercooler for Australia, and replace the radiator and main pipes. 6000km oil changes , and oil filter every second change. I would also do an engine flush every few oil changes to make sure the oil passages are all clean, ie for the turbo.

The bongo turbochargers are liquid cooled and oil cooled, much better than the old oil cooled ones. Having said that, probably best so drive slowly for the last bit of your trip without lots accelerator..

Or just let the engine tick over for 20/30 seconds before switching off.
