What 18" tyres ?

Sorry to sound like a complete thickie (not for the first time) but if i were to acquire some nice 18s what are the exact tyre codes i need to look for please including load ratings

This compares your Standard size and you can match a close as for larger wheels for rolling radius etc

As an example of sizes...... Mine are 225/55/17 W 101 XL ........ YBB has 225/45/18 on his not sure of his load rating.....

Yeah mike thats a good site now if standard front 4x4 tyres are 215/65 R15 then 225/45 R18s are near as damn it to the same rolling radius can anyone confirm the correct standard tyre sizes for a 4x4 as i believe the fronts are 15" and the rears 16" ?

Standard 4x4 is 15's all round...... I run my 4x4 with same size on each corner

Bongo generally comes 195/70/15 Front and 215/65/15 rear but fine with 215/65/15 all round.... with a 96 load rating....

My 4x4 has the same size all round, i believe that they come with 15's up front and 16's at the rear but due to the differance in tyre diamater the rolling radius is the same so my 18's are all the same .

No - standard is 15" front and rear with 195/70-15 on the front and 215/65-15 on the rear and as Mike says front load index at least 92 and rear load index at least 96.

4x4 should be the same size all round as when i had mine i changed 2 fronts as had a nail in 1 of them and when drivin smelt burning oil and had a loud noise from diff........went home very slowly changed tryes back and no probs ....put it down to front wheels going faster than rear and making the diff over heat and could have cooked the diff if carried on

I go with that theory of same size each corner for a 4x4.....I was told that by a Tyre fitter and the Handbook also says the same (in connection with winter tyres)

I changed back to my 15's today for the winter.....all were labeled to where they belonged and I marked the 17's with a label stuck on the inside of the wheel ready for when I refit in the spring so they go back onto the "corners" they came off of, plus a coat of polish and a spray of showroom shine which I left un- buffed for protection .....

All v6ers are 2 wheel drive as far as i know four wheel drive is different although they do come out of Japan with different sized tyres don't they . Odd i always thought 4 wheel drive should have same sizes all round but who knows how the japs think

Advised these by my tyre fitter and I have had no problems. 3 adults and 3 kids fully loaded for camping, tested this summer to Ukraine border, big bottoming out on some roads at speed,( will fit spring assisters) and off road, uncoverd road driving, pot holes at speed etc.

I have 225/45/18 so they should be pretty accurate. The only problem is that I have a speedo conversion chip fitted and I dont know what I can do to recalibrate it. At present it is reading high i.e 79mph indictaed is 70mph on satnav. This equates to 9-10% inaccuarcy ot 10,000 miles per 100,000 !!!

How do you recalibrate it, or is it a specialist job...?

Just check your speedo against your satnav to make sure that your speedo isn't under-reading - your tyres are 8.32% larger than the standard set-up.

I just don't get this reset the speedo needle thing surely if the needle rests on the pin at 0 mph then it will move depending on how fast the final drive turns the cable ?

Here is a photo, Running on standard springs, not lowered, no fouling of arches, speedo still reads over, 50mph is 47-48mph on Sat Nav.
