upwards------------slip the top portion off the plugs/wires stay put. you unbolt them first ,then remove the hanger, then unclip them from the wire/plug end.

I had my tail/side/dash lights fail about 3 weeks ago - got a relay from bongobits delivered for about £13. Couldnt manage to remove mine from the metal bar so unscrewed the whole lot lol

Have only got the 3 relays in mine - but do have foglights so am a little puzzled now! lol

If someone has fitted the front Fog lights as an after market item they may not have used the installed loom or relay position (they may not have used a relay at all :-( )

it's really odd as i had to replace a cracked lens on one of them and by the looks of the fittings, switch etc they've been there forever! Could they be "driving lights"?

Tried swapping headlight and sidelight relays. Headlights still work but sidelights don't. Unless mine aren't in the same order as the ones pictures above. I'm a bit stuck now.
Any more ideas?

Have you tried checking continuity in the connector on the loom to the relay?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

No, I haven't got a meter to test it with, and if I did I wouldn't really know what to do with it anyway.

I had the dash in bits on Friday to swap the speedo face and I had to disconnect the foglight switches, but all the lights were working after I put everything back together again.

Thanks for all your replies and help. :D

Unfortunately I am a numpty  Had a cup of coffee and a re-look at the fusebox fact sheet. I didn't check the fuses under the bonnet initially.
I have now and No. 8 (rear lights) had blown. Swapped it for the foglight fuse and side lights and dash back lights now working.

I suffered this problem yesterday :( Found out on starting up after a more prolonged lay off using my Bongo than usual but not sure how long it may have been there as I haven't used the Bongo after dark for about 6 months!!

I have isolated the relay and checked by swapping them around which one has failed. I carefully opened it and found condensation inside but on drying and reassembly had no luck. Strange actually as it looked in good condition inside.

I tried to get a replacement in Halfors and a local Mazda dealer but no luck (Mazda needed chassis no and time to order............).

I really need to have one fitted by Tuesday as I am booked for a meeting/camp 250 miles away from Wednesday for a week - Can anyone help please :)

I suffered this same problem this evening. Tracked it down to the relay, swapping in one of the others fixed it, but I'm guessing none of the 4 in place is actually spare ? Having said that - I do have 4, and no foglights fitted (but wiring in place for them). What do the other relays in here do - is there an easy way for me to check if one of them is indeed spare? Had to delay a trip to sort this out, and I don't expect Halfords to have any suitable relays in stock?

So, diligent application of a multimeter seemed to indicate the order of the relays, from back to front, or left to right as you are looking at them, is:

tail light/side light/dash circuit
Headlamp circuit
Don't know - blue connector
Fog lamp circuit

Having no fog lights fitted, I swapped that one for the tail light circuit and everything seems to work. Now I just need to find a replacement - will any 20A 4-pole relay do or do I need to get a specific Mazda one?

Tis just a relay, may be worth popping it open, may just be a wire needs resoldering or contacts cleaning, not much to them to be honest, this may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=51193 - admittedly not the same relay, but they're all basically the same - a coil & contacts.
If it's a no go, then this one may help find a similar spare - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ht#p336605 - but as you say it's just a normal relay, so any similar rated one will do the job fine.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
