I've re-piped plenty of BX's..... lost count how many Spheres I have changed from DS models with Red LHS fluid to the later models with the Green LHM fluid......I would like a pound for every one I have changed....

Welcome to the forum Badmiker, this thread should help with the gearbox - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=38792 but as people have said, it's an auto, does what it says on the tin, should be able to stick it in D & go, that's it - takes some getting used to, you can play with the box, bit of engine breaking to confuse the tailgaters is always fun
& drop it into hold to drop down a gear for a bit of welly to overtake vw's of course

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Never had that problem with mine, it just ate heads faster than any Bongo ever.Badmiker wrote:I had a BX.
Most terrifying car I've ever owned.
It handled beautifully; ride was wonderful, brakes were strong. Lovely car to drive.
Except for the big red 'STOP!' light in the middle of the dashboard. If that ever came on you had about 20 seconds before the car sank to the floor, the steering went as heavy as a battleship, and you lost all brakes...

You would need to get hold of an early bongo and swap in the rear interior and seats and possibly weld in some mounts if they are not there in place. I remove the rear bench and put it in the cupboard under the stairs!!I would like to have the space AND the seating. Can I fit 'gull-wing' seats in place of the rear bench so I can fold away when not needed?

Re: new bongonaut, new questions!
Hi - Just picked up our 96 Ford Freda today - very exciting but have car seat woes. Have trawled through this forum searching under buckle crunch etc and all I'm managing to do is scare myself.Badmiker wrote:Ahhh! It's all becoming clearer!
After an evening of playing with the new toy I've discovered that it was operator error stopping the climate control from working properly (like, doh!) and I found the way to get the seats to slide about.
I've also re-routed the seatbelt to stop buckle crunch on the car seats. (FWIW I work with ropes, moorings and rigging and I've got absolutely no concerns with the strength of the re-routed strap).
Sorry, but the brakes are a soft point; nowhere near as good as a transits even. Maybe new fluid will help.
For the stereo; is it a universal 'japanese' connector I need, or a 'mazda' one?
Thanks for the warning about toddlers. They are both girls, but Flora already has her own set of spanners; it's the only way I can keep her away from my tools when I'm working on the bike...
We have a 3 year old and a 5 year old, the 3 year old's seat is OK as it's a britax first class (grubby and old but has an alternative routing) but the 5 year old's two seats (Mothercare one and a Gaco Asda cheapy) both have buckle crunch. I've wrapped the seat belt around the bar as per other peoples tips but have been a bit alarmed by the suggestions that this could compromise the safety of the belt. How did you re-route yours ??
Also what make of car seat are you using?
All help welcomed.
Why, oh why did I chose such a naff forum name????
