Hi folks.

I have put the date of 25th September in my diary.....in ink!
I think we still need to firm up on exact location. I know the guys met up at Kingshouse Hotel in Jan 2009, and 'wild camped' on the adjacent road, but i feel a little uncomfortable doing this at a busier time of the year, especially if we get quite a few takers...... How about stying at Red Squirell (for those who want to stay over) and dining at The Clachaig? Your thoughts / suggestions folks.......

I'm open to suggestions for location. Ideally, within stumbling distance of a eating / watering hole. However, I have BBQ and fridge so would also be happy if we had to fend for ourselves.

We are off to the camp site at Loch Ranoch this weekend.... its a basic (cheap with no showers but running water and toilets), but fantastic site. I wonder if we may be better to do a BBQ and bring a few beers. I have a 3m x 3m easy up I could bring as a 'group shelter'...... thoughts.

That would be fine for me. I've also got a 2.5x2.5 base seconds that can seat 4-6.

Any others with opinions / preferences out there?

The weekend of the 25th Sept is in the diary. I am happy to either rough camp or to go to a site, whatever the majority want to do. The old Glencoe road is a stunning location and near to the King House Hotel, http://www.kingy.com The Red Squirrel, www.redsquirellcampsite.com ,is a nice wee basic site within walking distance to the Clachaig Inn, www.clachaig.com ,which is usually good on a Sat night. The Red Squirell costs £8 per person per night and allows small campfires. They have metered showers too and it's a 5 minute walk from the pub. Both seem good options in my books.

Last year our original intentions were for a wild camp near the Inveroran Hotel on the old Glencoe Road which branches off from Bridge of Orchy and comes to a dead end about half a mile past the hotel where it continues as a footpath for the West Highland Way. Unfortunately the hotel was closed at that time of the year so we went for our second choice the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe.

If it is a relatively quite meet away from the crowds that is wanted this location could be worth a punt. The meet up location could be the car park next to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel on the A82 which we used last year.

If Glencoe is the prefered location (and it is a stunning drive, whichever way you come) my preference is for a pitch up at the red squirell mid pm, bit of 'gay banter' at the site in the afternoon, and the hospitality of the Clachaig for scoops and a few jars into the evening.... 'jobs a good un I say', hats in the ring any takers.....

I'd throw my Stetson in for that one Dave! A campsite may be better for those with kids and it's only £8 per person per night and 50 pence per child. I may even spoil myself and have two nights there...

If its only 50p per child..... I think I may buy a couple for the barbeque (cheaper than chicken!!!)

I stayed at a really nice campsite in Blair Atholl a couple of months ago - it was only £1 per night for a dog. Got a lovely labrador for 2 nights.

I'm not taking any dogs or any kids with me. I may invite a few friends along though.

The only problem that I can see with taking kids to the Red Squirrel Campsite is its reputation for being noisy in the evenings at weekends. Hope that it will have quitened down a bit off season. Not that it will bother the likes of me much.

The weekend of the 25th will be the Glasgow September Weekend, with a holiday on the Monday, so the campsite may be busy, and full of Weegies.

Also, it is guaranteed to be bad weather!

Guess we should all book up early then! Get in before the Weegies!
