Then add in effects of braking & loading - 750kg is not a lot, very easy to overload a bongo.

A wise move
At least you'll know you're insured if anything was to happen - no Bongo and a police record isn't a very rosy scenario

Ok, I've just looked in the handbook
For standard tyres
195/70 R15 - 92S
215/65 R15 - 96S
215/70 R15 - 98S
One extra figure from my plate in the drivers door
195/80 R15 - 96S
I'd never really looked too much at these figures, but from looking at these it seems to me we've been making spurious assumptions.
There is no mention of the front tyre being a minimum 92, it is all dependant on the tyre size being 195/70 R15, any different to that & it should be a minimum of 96S, if the tyre size is 215/70 R15, it should be 98S. a lot of people are running the same size tyres all around, & a lot are running bigger size wheels. I am not a tyre expert, but I think this needs looking at properly by someone who is.

You know me John, I do like to mix things up
It would be great to get a proper answer on this one, especially with all the different tyre sizes etc. Of course it's best to play safe & get overrated tyres, but for bigger sizes ( I'm on 17's with 215/55 98W XL) how can we be sure. It is not just a matter of static weights & speeds, it is dependant on tyres size, profile & width.

Also, how do people who run anything other than the regulation tyre size & rating etc get on with insurance, say you had a crash and the nice insurance company refused to pay out because your 18" RX8 alloys aren't what Mazda intended, leaving you with the bill for lifelong care for the person you ran over?
At least when I go to get tyres fitted (regularly
) I always get "you know you've got different size tyres on that"

Insurance company should be informed of ANY changes, failure to do so could result in the policy being void (or words to that effect
) I've told my insurance company.

I stated with my Insurance I was running on 18" wheels if you declare these things then I presume you are covered

But even though you've told them, what evidence have you got that they're ok - just being devil's advocate in the hypothetical court case where an 'expert' tells the bench that those wheels & tyres are non-standard and unsuitable....

Best to declare any changes to the Insurance.......
I have my alloys and Stainless exhaust listed along with the conversion..... Don't want them trying to get out of a payout for want of not informing them in a letter..... with relevant paperwork to support.....of course
And they do check tyres thoroughly when they send an assessor out.... they even did on MIL Suzuki Wagon R....not just depth but sizes etc...

Of course you can't forget the Tyres........ I have Bongo factory alloys on Van tyres.....and the Insurance were very happy with that.....especially as the V5 says Motor Caravan as the body type....
