OBD 1 isn't it, i had same prob couldn't find anyone with the right lead



I got the multi meter on mine with little success wouldn't recomend it tho made me sweat

Basically these are a thermocouple in the exhaust to tell you the exhaust is HOT as in your in Japan parking this car on grass now will likley cause a fire. The system had to be retro fitted on all the British built Minis I bring back from Japan and loads of these with aftermarket exhausts have them either cable tied off under the car or under the carpet, disconnecting them on Minis causes an alarm to go off as it has detected open circuit. Again this module can be removed with the wiring and its UK spec... anyhow enough Minis! on the Bongo it will be doing the same thing warning the cat is too hot or that the system is faulty. Check the emmisions now if they are ok then I would just disconnect it as no use in UK, a laser temp reader off the CAT would be useful and compare it to another Bongo.

Hi again sorry its took so long to get back regarding this problem.took Cheffy's advice and disconected sensor
since then its done 3000 km and ran pretty smoothly mechanic took plugs out yesterday said they were
perfect
bongo passed its MOTyesterday with 2 advisres a droplink and an anti-roll bush
the bongo has now done 1003500 km .Im about to get the belts done (see other thread)
could the timing belt being due have brought the initial p roblem to light .please dont laff
at me if that last sentance sounds rediculous but my knowlege of cars/engines is nil but
hopefully that will change because Im as mad about bongos as most peeps on this forum
I just dont have enought time to post much between work/kids/passtimes

Nobody's going to laugh at you Jimmy - having a Bongo get to over a million kms is quite an achievement

The timing belt due won't have caused your light problem,

Might have known you would have clocked that dandy
dandy if youv'e read my other thread Re timming belt as you seem very
in the know re bongos .would my best bet be to get just the belts for the mechanic
let him get it opend up and do the belts and get the seals /tensioners if requierd
I use the bongo everyday but wife has car so not stuck without one so can go without
bongo for a while

Thanks for the kind words Jimmy - I don't know much about the V6 engine but I'd be inclined to get the kit and seals before starting then if they're all required then they're to hand - if bits aren't required I'm sure you could sell them on. From what i can gather there's tools to lock the various shafts in place before removing the belt - in other words, I'd need to be sure the mechanic was pretty conversant with quad cam setups and had tools to do the job.

Spoke to mechanic today he wants me to drop the manuals in for a few days so he knows what he's up against
hope he doesn't bottle it he's got a great reputation so if he thinks he cant handle it then I will really start
to panic price is allready getting high just for parts so will drop the manuals in asap and start to price all possible
needed parts . If he can't do it whats my best option what sort of specelist do I need to look for
