The gas assistance won't do anything about the rear being lowered by the extra weight Dave - it's the damper operation which will benefit from it.

Ahh, I see. It's been a long time since I have had to deal with 'normal' shock absorbers (due to owning a series of Citroens). I remember with gas assist shocks, they always try to extend when they are not fitted, but I suppose the strength of that extension is irrelevant in comparison to the vehicle weight.

Now there's an idea - rig up a Citroen Hydropneumatic suspension system to self level and have the best ride and handling EVER on a Bongo

There must be plenty of BX's in scrap yards - or have they all disappeared now?

Xantia Activa, that would be very interesting - active anti-roll, height adjustable, excellent ride, adaptive damping, rock solid when fully up or fully down.

Hmmm...... reaches for 8mm pipe spanner.
