Thought about buying a new one (£178 del.), too much so that didn't work. Thought about second hand one (£80 del). Far too much so that didn't work. HIT THE TANK WITH A RUBBER MALLET A FEW TIMES. THAT REALY WORKED. So I think all in all the earth the clean and the whack all helped to resolve. Thanks again for all the help, weldone. =D> =D> =D> =D> \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ :D :D :D :D
Sorry to resurrect this thread but i've just done the external earth (tank to chassis) fix and not had any joy in getting my fuel gauge to respond :(
So before i attempt to take the carpets etc up - just whereabouts did you hit it with the mallet and how hard? [-o<

Make sure that you have contact with bare metal on the chassis and the tank, scrape off any rust, underseal to expose the metal.

Hi,

I recently did mine. There is a great piece of earthing metal plate just behind the spare wheel. I thorougly cleaned it with a piece of wire wool, set up the wire with ring connectors and washes to make as much surface area as possible, and connected the other end to the nearest hole on the tank lip. This I also made sparkling clean. When I initially turned the key I thought it hadn't worked but then the dial started to creep up and has worked since. =D>
