Sounds like the scavenge fan kicked in to bring it down then, doesn't seem to be any problem there, running as it should IMO, just tweak up the Mason alarm a bit so it squeals a bit higher if you want, but I like to know when it starting to rise, it reminds me to look at the temp gauge

be interesting to know what that equates to in terms of actual temperature
We don't have a mason alarm on our Freda but Allan fitted a gauge that measures the temperature of the coolant 'after it's been cooled' (to make sure the 'cooling' system is working). Our Freda has a new head etc and heavy duty radiator. On a run it reads 70 degrees and around town or belting uphill it's 80 degrees.

fitted a mason alarm yesterday then went for a drive over wrynose pass
to see when it beeped, finally setting it at a tad under 4
scarey watching the temp needle go past 11 o'clock though:shock:

well we went out yest for the day and had set the alarm on 4.5. after a few long long hills (hard work getting out of N.cornwall sometimes) the temp gauge was right up to the line and the alarm started beeping at me furiously stopped to have a look and the header tank was very hot and the second radiator was hot (but not the little one in front), we left the engine running whilst in the layby to see if the fan would kick in which it did. as soon as fan kicked in the temp gauge started to come down and settled around 2 o clock. so turned alarm up to 5 and are going to slowly turn it down until it only beeps after fan should come on.
gave me a fright tho.
does anybody know if it poss to disconnect the AC radiator so cool air gets straight to main rad behind? (that is assuming the small one at front is for AC?)

the little radiator in front is for the air con different system to the engine cooling.
Lost without my Bongo.

so we could in theory remove it and disconnect air con so air coming through grill gets straight into the cooling system!!

In all honesty I don't really think it'll make enough of a difference - if any - to warrant doing it.
