Alternator wire / Alternator problem

I have now changed the alternator, which was certified faulty by Nippon in Bham ( New one cost £138 )
I have also changed the split charge relay for a more robust unit and had the system checked by an auto electrician.
The random wire out the side of the alternator was part of an old split charge relay presumably, and has been chopped.

All is now well.

Could be worth noting that if you rcharge light disappears altogether, it could mean the alternator is faulty, just as if they stay on it does.

I might have the same issue as you, my batteries are not being charged.

Bongobits want £135 inc for an alternator, I guess with P&P on top.

Where is Nippon in b'ham?

Nippon is on Reddicap industrial estate sutton coldfield
If you whip the old one off and take it into their trade counter they will tell you if its working OK or not.
Easy enough to take off, only took me 15 mins.

Without starting the van since the weekend, I just put a meter on my batteries and they showed 12.4V. When I started the engine they dropped to 11.9V and stayed there regardless of the revs (4000rpm). Once I stopped the engine they stabilised at 12.0V. When I checked the bolt on the back of the alternator, no change, so I guess its goosed.

I think i will order it online and fit it at the weekend.
