When I log on to the forum I start off with the section I moderate, then my local section and then get on to the "view active topics" list and read down through the headings, clicking on ones which look interesting. I was seriously thinking of organizing some meets here in Plymouth, and up 'T' North. As I have contacts with large areas of land that are set up for large camping groups,but there is no chance now. shame as I was looking forward to it.
The Worcester bash was our first real meet as we have only called in on others, and although it was a fantastic meet as usual there is always one! and from what I see in the forums its a regular thing, one small group with a tendancy to push the limits and upset the majority and wonder why folk have something to say that isn't all fluffy and nice. But I must thank them a little, they have saved me a lot of work!!

Can anyone enlighten me as to which night we are talking about and roughly where the noise was coming from. I was pitched next to the NW marquee on Saturday night and wasn't aware of anything untoward, it's true I could have been wasted on Spanish red but I'm curious which area of the rally field we are talking about here.

I was much the same (only not quite so happily wasted as Muz as I only had cheap lager inside me and I fell soundly asleep to the sound of noisy people enjoying themselves).

BUT, I'd have to say that the Bash rules say 11pm and that its very common for campsites to have such a rule because many campers like to get to bed in good time and may choose camping because of the chance it gives them to get away from the 'madding crowd'. And small children also might not understand at all what is going on.

As an aside, I think Harry has hinted at the right compromise. Locally organised meets (such as NW & Yorks) may like to party and will then be careful to pick sites where they can do this with nae bother. If you attend one of those meets, expect some liveliness ( ). But the Big Bash I think needs to accommodate the needs of campers seeking peace and quiet. If it doesn't, they may not attend and something valuable would be lost.

The first and most important point made by the original poster though is the most compelling one of all. The 11pm rule will almost certainly be a Lickhill Manor site rule. If they get complaints about us breaching it, we may well not be invited back again. And that really would be a tragedy.

Could this be a suggestion for the Big Bash.

Many years ago we were members of a club The Triumph Sports Six. Now they used to have a large bash on a Horserace course. Now what they did when you book/arrived they asked the campers, "Quiet or Noisy camp section?"

It worked really well as many were preparing there vehicles late into the night for judging the next day. Also, by the time they finished doing what they were doing that was their time to catch up with other members.

What about using the very far overflow field behind the official Marquee for folks who wish to chat and chant a little later than others. That way those that prefer or need to go to bedlington earlier can do so without being disturbed. Also it is well away from the residents of the site.

This would not be possible for Hookups. I understand that.

They have the same deal at Santa Pod, there's a "family camping" section and a "600KW sound system and donuts through the night" section, the two being kept well apart.

Calm down kids - nobody died. From what I understand the complaint didn't refer to the NW marquee anyway which was, incidently frequented by peeps from other regions.

This won't work; it's too close to the Residential Nursing home.

When we stay at Lickhill (or any other site) we have to abide by the rules of the site. At Lickhill the rule is noise should be kept to a minimum after 11pm. If you don't like it, don't come.

It is my responsibility to ensure that the rules are adhered to, or we won't be asked back again. Security patrols went around the perimeter up to midnight on both Friday and Saturday nights and reported no problems. The Cefn Cribwr bunch in the corner by the statics had been warned during the day to keep the noise down at night, which they adhered to, certainly up to midnight.

I received no complaints about noise, and would have taken action if I had.

Quicky suggestion in advance of guidelines:

If you are organising a meet let peeps know in the initial details (and final details) what sort of meet it will be.

eg ...two of the meets I'm involved in organising this year:

24th - 26th July Allithwaite, Cumbria. Friday night jacobs join and hall/marquee open until 11.00. Pubs nearby. Seperate quiet & party pitches available.
Saturday night: Harry's 60th birthday party..noisy until god knows when!

2nd - 4th October NW big Autumn bash - Gibraltar Farm, Silverdale, Nr Carnforth, Lancashire-
Although campsite noise restrictions normally apply, because we have an exclusive booking we can party on into the night within reason. The time of year makes it nessesary for the NW marquee/social meeting area to be central to the hookup area so this area may be noisy quite late on. One or two queiter hookups and plenty of quiet non hookup pitches will be available but peace and quiet cannot be guaranteed. Please state you preference when booking.

If anyone had told me in advance that at my first bongo meet (a few years ago) that nearly everyone would be locked inside their vans by 9.00pm I wouldn't have done the round trip. Fotunately fellow newbies DBO and Dabs where equally shocked and cheesed off....the rest is history.

By at least giving peeps an idea of what to expect, they can at least decide whether or not they want to come.

It is called the "Bongo Bash", not the "Bongo Have a cup of cocoa and an early night" , This is the one weekend of the year for a lot of people to catch up with everyone, we all make the most of it. I have just got home, I'm absolutely shattered, but I fully expected to be, it's a party weekend IMO rather than a "camping" weekend
I spoke to a lot of the people left there this morning - a lot of those of the "older" generation, not one had a problem with a bit of late night drunken partying, nor were they under any illusion that it would be silent by 11pm.
At Lickhill, especially on saturday night, the acoustics & stillness of the night were such that a normal speaking voice was carrying a long way, let alone laughter or a bit of singing.
If it had been silent by 11pm, there would have been a hell of a lot more complaints about it being boring.
To my knowledge, the campsite managers had no problems with noise (other than the bands ) & having spoken to them as the last two of us left this afternoon, they are looking forward to our return last year.
