I haven't got any clonking yet, but getting ready for some new ones. Do people recommend getting the Mazda ones over others?

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MINE ONLY LASTED 7 MONTHS before they threatened to fall apart started rattling around after 5 months he replaced them no probs, certainly seems to be the passenger side that goes first next ones i shall use vectra ones at a tenner a pair you can afford to change em twice a year, i believe mike has had his on a long time the bonus is igf they not been on long they are easy to get off

Got all mine replaced about 6 months ago, mazda ones from Ian, rear have began to clunk already Going to check the rubbers, they were replaced at the same time

Hmm interesting thanks for that cheffy and Pete. Heard of the vectra ones being used before and that is a decent price.

Strange because, as I've posted before, the Vectra ones I fitted at the front appear to be doing OK over a year since I fitted them. Makes you think the quality of the supplier (mine came from a local motor factors that supplies a lot of local garages - less likely to peddle poor stuff maybe?) matters more than the claims on the spec with respect to 'heavy duty'

Ok here is the update.....
emailed 'jake-the-must' and informed him of the situation regarding drop link,he replied apologised and asked for a photo of failed link to send to his supplier,at the same time he sent a replacement pair FOC,they arrived today and after checking them over they seem of a much better quality but are NOT the same so-called 'heavy duty' ones i originally purchased,this has left me in a dilemma...do i fit the new,apparently better quality ones,or do i insist on the 'heavy duty' ones i paid £40 for?
the ones he sent are from a british company called 'lancer products',the original ones are of un-know origin.
i will try and post pics of both sets asap.

I found on Ebay some Vectra ones for £7.95.... the pair.. .....one has to wonder the quality of them... ..at that cost they could be changed on an annual basis (if they don't break before) just before the MOT...

To be honest the ones that i first got from fleebay i was suss about when i put them on, they were from the same supplier and they had the number on the side grinded off and really were extended to the limit on the socket joint, so i suspected they were vectra ones all along, but to be fare the new ones were sent right away no charge or quibbles the second pair do look heavier duty but we will see if they die again before 12 months they will be going back aswell

I don't know if the rubber used in suspension & steering 'boots' is different to that used for coolant system hoses, but I always understood it was best not to let oil or grease get on to the latter as it could cause them to deteriorate prematurely. Of course, suspension and steering boots have oil and grease acting on the inner surfaces all the time, so I dunno! I would personally be reluctant to cover the exterior surfaces with grease, tho', tempting though it may be.

However, I believe in Waxoyl! After fitting new front drop links to my niece's Bongo (standard Vectra ones from my local Factors), I gave the whole car a thorough Waxoyling, including - deliberately - all the rubber pipes, hoses, boots and gaiters visible underneath!

I dropped in to my local motor factors yesterday for an oil filter yesterday and mentioned about the droplink issue. He confirmed they only buy assured brands as their main business is professional garages in the area. They would be happy to post Vectra droplinks if anyone wants to purchase from them. I'd suggest phoning as I've no idea how good they are at checking their emails. You'll need to tell them exactly what you need (the advice is on BF somewhere but from memory, it is Vauxhall Vectra front droplinks for models made in the mid to late 90s)

great info Mike....... got my paranoia head on again......I have no knocking but this thread still got me out there looking at my front and rear drop links for perishing of rubber and excess play.... ...

not just now, I have some in my parts collection, all is well with mine... but then I do like to know the history of any parts that are known to be "suspect" after a period of time...... oh well will do 'em before the winter comes

I've just had the "heavy duty" front droplinks fitted...fingers crossed...
