Re: Intermittent problem with my Bongo

Even more exactly the point I was making - the matter is one for Mazda, not for the local dealer, to sort out.Trouble at t'Mill wrote:Interesting!
Something to consider is that the Bongo was never available from a Mazda dealer in this country, so having it imported from Japan is hardly depriving the local Mazda dealer of a sale! So they shouldn't have their noses put out of joint. I wonder if the same applies in Brunei? Ie: if the Bongo could have been bought from a Mazda dealer in that country, then I can imagine them being reluctant to sort out an import. But if not...
However, as for product recalls, surely as long as the recall is valid for the duration of the vehicle's life they are obliged to repair it regardless of which country you are in? Eg: Say you bought your Bongo in the 'normal' way from a Mazda dealer in a country where it was available, and then moved to live in another country where the Bongo was not available directly from Mazda - would that absolve them from responsibility to fix your car under a recall notice? I don't think so. And importing these cars is a completely legal process.
Imagine if this was a SAFETY issue (and the problem with autobox solenoids could very well be - that link mentions it could cause the car to move forwards when not asked to!). Are Mazda really going to say we ain't going to fix it just because the car isn't in the country of original sale?! If you bought a car in France and then moved with it to Germany, would - say - Peugeot Germany tell you they won't fix your 'safety recall' brakes 'cos you didn't buy it from their local dealer? Nah.
So, if this item falls under a recall notice, and that notice is still valid (eg in Japan), then I don't see Mazda have any alternative but to sort it. Whether in Britain or Brunei.
I'd contact Mazda Brunei

If they won't help try Mazda Japan.
