Sounds like your mechanic is a toothsucking doom monger who hasn't met a bongo before

Just keep an eye on the PS level, if/when it drops over time top it up with power steering leak stop fluid, clean up the leaky bit, then you can keep an eye on what's going on with it.

Damn right too

But I think as you have said yourself Dandy, the leakstop stuff can cure the leak in some cases, hence me saying clean off the leak & keep an eye on it after adding it, to see if it's working or not.
If its not or if you want to even if the leakstop stuff works, replace the pinion seal if that's where it's leaking from, or maybe fit a recon rack (about £150ish?).

Thanks for your help on this matter, I think I will try Wynn's Leak Seal before I go to any major expenses!!

Ok..so I've been reading this thread and I now know, from the whining noises that started yesterday when I hard lock the steering, that I probably need some Power Steering Stop leak, and some PS fluid. I know it's a stupid question, but where is the power steering filler tank located?

Under the drivers seat along with the auto box dipstick, air & fuel filter.
