If you raise the roof & then open the sides, it's much easier to do the lubrication from inside the roof than it is doing it from a ladder outside.

I've only once had a problem with the roof not coming down (at the Kingshouse meet) and I think that it was a combination of cold & melting snow in the contacts somewhere. I didn't notice any change in engine note, but it might be worth cleaning all the connector blocks with switch cleaner - I'm guessing that the presumed mechanical lock is opened electrically when the roof gets the signal to come down...
