Thanks for all the replies.
The reason I asked prior to fittting my alloys the mechanic had to use a 2"dia piece of scaffold end on to smash one of my steel wheels off saying it was quite normal.

So what Im going to do before I put my alloys back on after putting them in hibernation for the winter is put a very small smea of copperslip on the studs (not the taper) and smear the back of the wheel lightly.

I use an airgun to tighten the wheel nuts up but allways back the off and tighten them sequentialy with a torque wrench to 120n/m and recheck within a couple of hundred miles.

Before I put the wheels away I cleaned them and polished them with Mer It has allways kept alloys looking nice.
