My mechanic says the filters are clean and has suggested it could be some kind of fuel sensor problem,any ideas please?

:? :? How can he tell if the main filter is clean - has he just changed it?

Yes,he changed it a month ago when he serviced it.

Have you been using veg oil? If so, the filter could be blocked, as it cleans out the fuel system.

No never used veggie oil,dirty or water in diesel is the suggestion from our local importer.

I've had a filter go from OK to the Bongo doing just what you describe in a weekend!

If he "changed it a month ago" - he hasn't checked it NOW has he?

Change it again - I had to and it cured the problem.

I'm sure my problem was caused by some dirty diesel - I'd had some stored in a drum and straight after I put it in the Bongo I had problems and a totally undriveable Bongo in less than 200 miles.

He is changing the new filter tomorrow,possibly going to drain the tank :( at least it is not full,i hope this sorts it i need my motor for work,now work is pickin up and i have no transport :x

Hi GUN,
I understand that your brother is a Mechanic,if so I would sugest that he could try a test bottle direct to the injector pump.If the vehicle runs ok with the test bottle,the problem lies in the filters or the tank.This will save you draining the tank etc

PS the tank in most vehicles have a filter ie 3 filters..

Hi Grim, the last filter change wouldn't have been around 200 miles ago would it?

The reason i asked was i took on some contaminated fuel last year, (in fact two of us did) we both filled up at the same time, we both conked out at exactly the same second! Around 200 miles after filling up. Water in the diesel. We had both had our vehiucles fully serviced before embarking on the trip, so our filters were barely a week old.

It's just possible your filter may have been contaminated before fitting? I'm not taking anything away from your mechanic,but it's possible the filter had fell into a puddle or something?

Teenmal makes a good point with the test bottle of clean fresh fuel running straight into the pump.

If she revs up as normal,you know the existing fuel,or filter is contaminated.

If it still doesn't rev up, add some injector cleaner into the fresh test bottle of fuel,and keep on adding more into the bottle whilst revving through.

If water has got to the injectors it can gum them up, causing fuel starvation. I'd chuck the fuel, the filter, and run another dose of injector cleaner directly into the new filter on first start up, then take the bongo for a damn good spanking!

you say that you had water in your diesel(x2)do you know wher the water came from??

You need to remember that all diesel contains a percentage of bio now. Bio will strip the tank and fuel system squeeky clean and block the filter in no time. So it sounds like the 'dirt' is from bio. 8)

Hi THE GREAT PRETENDER,
I dont think Bio has Dirt in it,more like wee bits of Lambs and Goats etc,but they are well filtered.

No, but it seems to be a popular opinion that it is a good solvent for all the crud that's been hanging about in the system for a while....

Its all coming together now ! BDC, 200 miles will be about right since the service,i have only been round the doors.The problem i seem to have at the moment is the 'two mechanics in the family and neither can be bothered syndrome'.
