That goes along with my experiences of using a more free flowing back box on the bongo, if i really HAD to put my finger on it, i'd guess it's a touch more responsive....Maybe.

Ok, as expected no local garages had the part, so have tied up the end as best I can with a hanger, was resting on cross member between rear wheels ( anti roll or something? ) and will keep an eye on it on the way home. Fingers crossed.

Will also keep eye on fuel consumption as generally record this.

600km run here I come (after a cup if tea) wish me luck!

I now have a much smaller s/s Magnex ( they went bust I believe) rear box on mine with s/s pipes - seems to work fine

The stainless steel rear box on mine is maybe a tad smaller than the original mild steel exhaust, but curiously quite a bit lighter in weight...

Well, car appears to be going fine, if loud, and bloomin slow going it is today, 310km covered in 5.5hrs so far. Currently coming to you from the carpark of the little chef past longleat on the a303 where I have been in a queue for the past couple of hours!

Hello, if you're Reading, to a green aft p*** fta and a burgandy freda n reg whose letters escape me, both of whom have been in the same queue!

Hello, also, to the huge number of bongos and fredas in the penzance to Truro area whom I've waved at this past weeks! Must be taking over from the aging vw camper round that way!

Right then. Back to the queue for me and barney the dog!

Home! 9.5 hours in the end! crickey.

Anyway, definitely louder without the rear box, outside as well as in - tho possibly front part of exhaust could also be blowing, will get underneath for a jolly good look around tomorrow before I order new bits when people open again on Monday.

I promised fuel consumption figures, but am afraid they're not going to be massive indicative.

on the way down, motorway cruising at 2500rpm from Letchworth to Bristol i averaged 30mpg, that's on the good side of average for me (29 is my average).

on the way back, I had 23mpg from Penzance to Fleet services on the M3; however, as I was crawling along pretty much between Exeter and Andover, and then taking out my frustration through my right foot from Andover to Fleet services at about 3200rpm, I don't think that's much of a shock, or too useful for purposes of comparison, but, still, there's a lesson, if you want good MPG, don't sit in traffic, or thrash the nuts off of your beloved bongo!

Finally, I found the bus a little more "eager", acceleration wise, sans rear-box, noticable but not huge, and it was a cold day, she always goes better in the cold!

Anyway, time for a lie down!

Glad you got home okay.

I'm not sure why I did about 23 MPG without a back box and typically do 30 on the same kind of run then :?: Seems to be closer to 32 MPG on recent motorway runs now though. Odd.

Got my new system fitted today, peace again (well, as peaceful as life in a bongo gets - that's a job for the spring, try to quieten the bus down to the satisfaction of the misses).

Will fill her up again tomorrow, so give some useful "normal journey without back box" figures then, to close up this thread.
