Are you sure that wasn't a used nappy?

Were the windscreen vents working before your garage replaced the heater motor? If so, it sounds as if they could have disturbed the linkage (or electrical connection if auto aircon). Both are easy to fix.
The reason I think this could be the problem is that to replace the heater motor, the garage may have had to remove the linkage to gain access to the motor and not put it back.

Have you tried taking it back to the garage?

The only linkage they should have had to disturb is the recirc flap, to replace the fan motor, as it is accessible from under the bonnet, the linkages are in the cockpit.

I didn't know exactly where the motor was - thanks for that. You learn something new everyday.
Back in November, you helped me with my aircon actuator - you were spot on.

In Vanessas case, I still believe it would be wise to check the linkage and cam operation first - Reason I think this may be the problem is that the linkage and cam are the main components for diverting the air flow - and it takes but minutes to check.
I tried to send some pics of the cam arrangement (the ones from my problem) so that Vanessa knows what she is looking for but I failed. Perhaps you could send them to her (or tell me how to do it-remember I am a newbe at this and therefor thick by default).

I agree with you on the linkages in the drivers footwell probably being the culprit



Make sure it moves to change modes & everything's attached as it should be & nothing is obstructing it's movement.

Are you sure it wasn't just, like, a foggy day???

and if you do have your fan set to use air from the outside on a foggy day, won't that make it even foggier inside?

Not with the aircon on - it dries the air.

Glad it's cleared, i bet the linkage has come adrift to the vents, i hope you used an "empty" nappy?
