gadget, if you have engine starter from Japan, please put here photo or full name this device. I found some info about japan remote engine starters, and this info was very helpful for our users.

Hi Gadget.

Did you ever get your remote start system working? After working faultlessly since we got the Bongo in November, ours has suddenly stopped working.

I notice that in the Russian club thread linked from DemonAV's immediately previous posting here, there's a photo of a remote start receiver unit - which has a reset button! I'm hoping that a reset is all that's needed on ours (transmitter battery is fine, and I don't have any blown fuses) although, judging by the handheld blipper/transmitter shown in the Russian picture, it's not the same model.

Unfortunately, our receiver unit is buried out of site, probably behind the side trim panel in the rear, immediately behind the driver's seat - if the antenna position (mounted inside the window at the top of that trim) is any guide. Haven't looked carefully yet but suspect I'll have to remove our rear facing bench seat to get the trim off, so any clues first from your experience much appreciated

Panic over. Fixed it. Tarnished door close contact on sliding door seems to have been the cause. Servisol to the rescue

No J, it wasn't, and the alarm and immobiliser were also setting normally.

I realised it wasn't a remote start receiver/controller reset needed, as I first suspected, when I heard a relay operating after the engine start command had been transmitted, and the interior light (switched on with deactivation of the alarm/immobiliser, step one in remote starting) was then switched off, as if in the normal ignition-on mode - as previously in remote start operation.

However, the ignition was not also switched on at that stage as it normally was - until I had cleaned up all the sliding door electrical contacts. I have to assume for the moment that the "door open" signalling contact pair is not the same pair as is used to allow the remote start ignition on functionality but, without a circuit diagram, and with the receiver/controller buried somewhere, I can't be sure. Do you have any know-how on these systems?

None what so ever.. However, I've just upgraded my alarm (which has a remote start & turbo wind down function which works with diesel & preferably with auto transmission ) I've fitted it myself, methodically testing everything, i already fitted a total window closure module from the last alarm (which was Sparkrite pants!!) & went in for a mod to close the mirrors too.!
The door open signal; i thought a good idea to set up to the channel on the door open signal on the dash, but the sliding door kept giving the impression the vehicle was still open.. I have a microwave sensor to cover all the interior, so settled on a trigger for just the front doors..
(I found no apparent fault with the sliding door contacts!)
I don't need the remote start function really, so have held back from installing for now.. (Though according to the spec, the doors stay locked during remote start.) The unit is fully adjustable to the needs of the user.
The key fobs can be set to open the vehicle when in the proximity without pressing buttons & beep/vibrate should anything untoward occur a good distance away.
It will even keep going if the battery is disconnected.. (Mind you they would have to get past the bonnet sensor first!)

So far i've had no problems with the initial alarm set up (like false alarms) & the customer care on the help line is spot on!

I just have one prob at the moment with the mirror closure device (not by the same company & works fine in it's self.) when i arm & lock the van the radio momentarily switches on then turns off..
I noticed it last night.. I didn't notice when i tested the closer install on account of not having the radio on during fitting... I bet my cigarette lighter switches on as well...

These Bongo's certainly are the deep end when it comes to the electrics & can understand why these auto sparkeys charge what they charge.

Wow! ...and you're certainly up on the high diving board at the deep end Very impressed. I'm just intent on keeping working what was working when I bought it, and enjoying the touring, rather than the tinkering, as much as possible.

Our remote start system is of an unknown (label gone from key fob) Japanese after market type, which I'm not going to be able to even identify unless and until I find the buried receiver/controller - and I hope I won't have to, really As part of its Imperial campervan conversion, a Hornet alarm (of much less sophistication - just a plain vanilla Thatcham 1) was installed, and may or may not have been switching-integrated with the remote start system by the installer - or perhaps it's just that the remote starter needs to see the immobiliser switched off by the Hornet 'off' toggle, before it will work?

Anyway, as the Hornet 'off' also unlocks the doors, our remote start only operates in that mode - so I only use it where I can still see it!! In fact, at this time of the year when Bongo pre-heating is not the issue, the best point about the remote start is being able to raise and lower the AFT without getting out of the back of the motor - not an insignificant advantage to me, as I've got some very dodgy knees at the moment No, not a candidate for a nobbly knees contest - osteo arthritis Cheers again, David
