now i don`t know if the light was due to the lambda sensor or the wire that goes to the cat,as i cleaned the lambda sensor connections and it hasn`t come back on today.the wire to the cat had been dangling down touching, but not connected to,the cat,so maybe it was making a connection/short or something?that is now tidied up out of the way.
thanks
jamie

If it's not connected Jamie the light doesn't come on :!:

Bang on center of the cat not the pipe.

Hi,

It depends on which model year you look at and at what section, I couldn't find mine for ages. It looks like the new shape bongos only have a lambda, whereas the others have both.

Hi

My 95 V6 has the two sensors. Lambda before the cat and the heat sensor in the middle of the cat. No elbow both go straight down with no wires visable as they are both completely sleeved.

The single sensor on the later Bongo is probably a combined heat and Lambda. Both feed back into the ECU. Lambda for the O2 measurement and heat to monitor the working temperature of the cat.

My heat light is second row up and the side nearest the steering wheel. Comes on on start up and then goes out straight away. Possibly a check that the sensors are inputing to the EMS? The Volvo one does that.

If the heat sensor is not inputing it would lead to higher fuel consumption as the ECU will not register the catalyst has reached working temperature.

A 4 wire lamda sensor is just a 2 wire one with additional feed and earth to heat up the sensor element to allow it to operate earlier.
