If you cannot see the level through the tank...a good guide is to...park on the flat....get a "sucker outer" thing ( one of those basteing things used to put fat over roasting chickens) is good. ...Switch on the ignition and suck out coolant till the alarm sounds....then put half a pint back in....That will be about right.

BDC, are you saying that your alarm operates on the lower probe ?.

If so, logic suggests that the 2 connections are reversed as it should
operate on the upper probe. As Haydn said the lower or earth probe
is only there to reduce the earth resistance and would probably work
without it.

I will reverse mine in daylight tomorrow just to make sure that's true
but I know my one works at the correct upper level.

:? As far as i know my alarm sounds if the coolant level drops below the top probe,if the level is fine and i climb a LONG hill (With a few undulating bumps) then the alarm may sound now and again, same applies if i am cornering on a long motorway slip road or whatever...

If the level drops below the top probe, the alarm will sound, (or it should at least) Dunno about the time delay thing,i've never had my stopwatch with me when it's done it.
