If so, hold on to yer 114quid, i might have a free solution...!

Hi,
Yes the only problem in the switch is plastic broken. Would really appreciate it if you have a solution.

Good idea, but apart from the top of the switch being broken, what came off, came off in little bits, Hence it jammed something. The outer case is knackered and would take more than superglue.
Thanks for your help though

I rebuilt the pivot lugs with araldite on the drivers switch when they went, but it only lasted a few months before going again, luckily Jaylee came to the rescue withe replacement plastic switch bit, may be worth sticking a "wanted" on the forum, there may be someone on the forum who's replaced the switch, but the plastic bit on the old one's ok?

I read on a forum how you repaired it with araldite and a cocktail stick, when I was looking to solve this problem.
I will try and find second hand switch before paying for new, but at least the windows are working for now, but not the controllability of the passenger window from the drivers side, which we can live with for now. Cosmetics only required for now. You sure learn a lot if you have a Bongo, but on the other hand , You have To!

In case anyone else has this problem, my son has just explained it all to me, but still not sure I understand

Apparently although the offside window was the only one not functioning, It had nothing to do with that side, which was stripped and checked in every way. It was the switch on the drivers side which operates the passenger window. Under the switch is a little box with the sliding mechanism, which switches between Up, down and is connected to the window lock. the plastic end and its particles had lodged the mechanism between the two contacts, therefore neither could work and it locked all connection to the passenger window and lock. I hope you can understand this. He said that If he had thought of it before stripping everything it would have been much quicker a job. He bypassed something for now so the windows only work seperately. might help someone!
Thankyou all for your help its much appreciated
Cheers Jimmy

If what you said is the little white contact box lug at the top has perished, leaving the switch in limbo so to speak...?
& what your son did was clean the contacts & push the box down thus enabling the passenger window to work..?
Then dude, i have your solution.
I have those parts spare!
... But to be honest, unless you want to disable the passenger window. I'd leave well alone if it's working satisfactory now!!

Hi Jaylee, Would replacing the plastic, disable the passenger window? My son has gone now, but he said he could replace the broken switch area if I could get one that only had broken mechanism. I apologise if I sound vague, but although we started working together on the doors, there was insufficient space and he finished alone "in peace" he called it, so apart from being shown the problem (not sure what I saw in that tiny hole/box)when he found it, I did nothing in the actual repair. he Never said anything had perished though. He told me as I repeated in my last post. I would be glad to hear what you think. If it will cause the passenger window to stop functioning maybe I would be better leaving it alone. Thanks Jaylee
Cheers Jimmy

The rocker switch behind the two window switches on the drivers side snaps on to a rod/lug at the top of a little white box with a contact.
When down or on the passenger window will operate either from the passenger switch or the drivers side.
When its up or off it renders only the passenger totaly window inoperable...
Now reading from your description of where your son found the fault, this sounds like the part that was causing the problem.
Regarding the little white box/contact, there is a recess with a spring & a ball bearing (a bit like a tiny version of a catch you get on one of those "old school" cabinets.
This gives the switch it's definitive click, & holds the contact in place, other wise the rocker switch would just rock/flap aimlessly about. (especially if you brushed it whilst operating the windows).
There's also another spring that is housed behind the actual metal contact that pushes it forward to complete the circuit.
It could well be that one of the springs & or the bearing "jumped the housing" making the switch inoperable & stopping your window from working...?
(he says coming up for air!!)
Now, i have a few spare bits (i seem to butcher them for a hobby)

i ended up using a Mazda 626 switch, in my opinion more robust & a lot cheaper..!

Hi Jaylee
Wow! That sounds very technical. he did say that one side seperated part of the circuit, so sounds right, but didnt mention a spring. I thought it was a bit of plastic had jammed the circuit controller thingy. He has done something, so as to allow both windows to operate seperately, but the passenger window cannot be controlled by the driver side switch(which pleased my wife. she hates it when I hit it by accident and her window goes down) Anyway he says because the plastic bit is missing, it is the best he can do, but with the plastic he can do something. I'm not sure anymore what I need. sorry to be a pain in the butt, but what do you think and where are you located. thanks for your great patience
Cheers Jimmy

Well after reading your reply it sheds a little more light on what actually could have caused the problem.
Sounds like you had the same problem that Kirsty (Missfixit) did..
Your Passenger switch on the drivers side acts as a pivot to move a fader switch type thing to either open or close the window, Depending whether you pull or push. It's attached to an arm with a little clip at the end which in turn moves the actual electrical component that works the window!
I suspect the plastic arm or clip snapped while you hit the down button causing it (in your case) to push electrical component in your switch into a constant open position over riding the passenger side, you notice that if you let go of the switch the window stops & the switch springs back!!
This spring would leave you to believe that there was nothing wrong, thinking an electrical component..
Your son must have reset the switch to off so only the passenger side works, because the plastic arm is broke in the drivers switch.
If that's so, i will have the part to have it fully functional...??
If this sounds right...?
I'll give you the part...

Dont buy a secondhand one - unless its very cheap - they are normally out of 12 year old bongos and just as close to breaking as all the others.
You can get an MX3 switch from a breakers for a few pound and I think that all but the top case which you already have is the same.

Hi Jaylee,
Glad we got it sorted, so I do need the plastic parts. And you have one spare. Thats great! How can we work this? If you tell me the cost I will get it to you and you can send it. Is that possible? Maybe IM would be a better way. Thankyou so very much for sorting it out.
Cheers Jimmy

Hi madmile, just seen your message, I only need the plastic thingy. Do you think it would be safer from a newer car MX3 and where could I check out that it would fit.
It's all getting a bit too technical for me, so I think I will have to use what I can find that definitely fits and then check for a better solution if it breaks again. Thankyou for your valued help again and the info on the MX3 part, which I will definitely keep in mind.
Cheers Jimmy
