Northumberlands on my 'hit list' - never been before and would like to.

A wind off the North Sea could make it chilly in March (for us ex Southern Shirtlifters) so shelter from wind would be good.

Ok, we’re back from our Northumberland tour, details of which will be posted shortly in Bongo Chat. We went to the two shortlisted campsites, the Beachcomber Campsite & Stables and the Proctor’s Stead Caravan & Camping Park.

Beachcomber Campsite & Stables

This is a working stables with horse-riding lessons and pony-trekking going on. It’s within earshot of the east-coast mainline railway, not too close but you’ll hear the trains because there is absolutely nothing else nearby. It’s right on the edge of the dunes with cracking views from the site. But I think it is too small for us, we would fill it on our own which is a shame because it is in a lovely spot.














Proctor’s Stead Caravan & Camping Park

This site was actually closed for campers because of waterlogging, although there were a few campers there. It’s also a static caravan site. There is a good pub, the Cottage Inn, about half a mile away in Craster itself. The site is handy for the likes of Dunstanburgh Castle and is definitely big enough for us. The waterlogging is a bit of a worry, though – if it’s unusable in August, what will it be like in March?

was young ! - count me in. Mike, I have heard the term
'shirtlifter' in totally different context.

One or two of us southerners could probably make that district as a weekend run for a meet.

Not cold enough. In any case, Peak District has been provisionally booked for October 09.
