snapped stud xtractor help please!!

Hi bongomann, sorry to hear of your plight, i can't offer any advice, as i have never used a stud extractor, or had experience with heli-coiling, but i shall be following this thread with interest, i hope it works out ok for you in the end...

not really an option kirsty as the manifold is in situ a dremmel is not going to fit,but you may have something with the grabbing drill idea,maybe a modified masonry drill,nice one,thank you, neil cheers bdc not only that but it wont go out of second gear either so when the extractor snapped i was ready to give up on it but after a nice pint of rum and four hours of searching im off to bed now and tomorrow round two only ive got plenty tricks up me sleeve,sorry for going on a bit but there you go,nos da all

Go on as much as you like bongomaan - we all know it can happen to any one of us. At least it makes it less lonely being able to come on here and shout for help. And people have made some useful suggestions.


Incidentally, is the Bong undriveable with a broken stud? If not, maybe focus attention on the gearbox then if you need to you can at least take it to a professional (though you will most likely know as much as them once this lot have finished giving advice).

You may be lucky & get the drill bit to "grab" it, I don't suppose you've enough room to cut a slot across the top with a dremmel or something to get a screwdriver in & try & turn it out? - not forgetting reverse thread direction of course.

Good idea. When I had the problem back in about 1989, the cost of Dremel like tools would have been much more than a 2nd hand replacement head and cash was tight. Tools are much cheaper now so this is another good option.
