Just typed a long reply then it disappeared,
In a nutshell.
I know of two V6's which have lost coolant due to failed hoses. The first was noticed almost at once by the driver smelling coolant and he pulled over before harm was done. The second blew the head gasket and had to be repaired. Guess what was in the glove box?? A low coolant alarm which had been there for weeks.
I have fitted one to my 2004 Mondeo diesel. They can be fitted to any vehicle (water cooled) If any of you out there have a old classic or other pride and joy..a kit can be put together.
I think more damage is likely in a diesel because of the much higher compression within the cylinder head.
