Well I can't hear any sort of hissing, whooshing, rushing, whizzing, only an engine reving. Hope that's how it should be. :)

Yep, that's quite true, the whooshing sound does ideed vary from bongo, to bongo. (in my limited experience at least) The whooshing increased in volume when i fitted a K&N, no bad thing, i like the sound of it. (i think it sounds sporty  )

Well I just put a K&N in mine and .................. it still doesn't whistle, pop, whine, scream... nor anything else, thankfully.

No audible turbo whistle, blow off valve shennigans, or anything else. Sounds just like a good engine should, quiet. Apart from the rather uncultured bangings and clatterings that a Bongo engine normally makes 8)

My car has a much more noticable turbo whistle, and blow off valve 'pssssst' sound. Even so, they are only really obvious when the window is down. Perhaps Saabs engines are noisy too, they just have very good sound proofing :)

My old landy disco used to whistle lovely when accelerating. If you can call it accelerating in a 2.5 TDI

The Bongo is like a sports car compared to that.

I can hear my turbo kicking in very faintly, but i have noticed that over time the seat/engine access retaining catches stretch out over time, I bent mine in a bit to tighten them & it was much quieter :D Maybe it's not so much differing amounts of noise from turbos, but differing amounts of noise getting through?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Yeah, could well be... I'll try the tweak with the catches too. I may try a spot of meguires rubber treatment on the seal whilst i'm at it, it seemed to work on the door seal on my car for a few months at least...

I was told by a turbo man that turbo whistle or whine what
ever you want to call it is due to very slight imbalance of
the turbo blades, it's nothing to worry about and in fact
some people ask for them to build it in when they recon
the turbo as they like the noise.

My dad's last camper, can't remember what it was based on, but it was only a couple of years old & the turbo sounded like a police siren in the distance - best speed monitor ever, you'd instantly check your speedo

Are you sure the noise is in fact coming from the turbo and not No 1 manifold stud ???

I have passed on the suggestions about what might be causing this noise ( including ref to the stud) She has in turn raised this with the seller who has agreed to look at it when it is being serviced / cambelt change so we will have to wait and see - - -
Origo bio stove - no Bongo!

You've all got me unsettled now. Mine has a lovely whistle but it always has had, and I like it. But have I been driving round for nearly 2 years with a broken stud?

You'd definitely notice the difference in sound mike,if it was a broken stud, the noise would have got progressively worse as time went on. Plus, i suspect the sound would diminish as the engine warmed from cold.

I've heard your engine mike, there are no untoward sounds coming from it...

Hi
You may not have heard of the 11th Commandment....I think Moses may have dropped the Tablet....it states:-

Just listen, wait for it and let the sound chill thy bones
