Bongo Fury

Sorry bout that bud, if that really might be the case. I was trying not to sound negative. My fingers are crossed.

I had the rac come out to me when mine went, but he did no sniff test thingy . Best of luck and tell us from time to time how you are getting on.

Sorry Franco didnt see "petrol" in the post first time round , but i did know his Bongo is Diesel.

A nice one it is too, especially with those twin exhausts.

A little update.... Have had the engine taken apart and it apears the gasket is fine.... however someone has already taken out the cylinderhead and basicaly botched a repair with glue and nails

Then sold it to me as quick as can be(never trust a copper). So Expensive repair for me then.to put my baby back together.

Does anyone know where I can get a really decent cylinder head from a reliable source???

What is the botch?

Well its dificult to say really, I am speculating but it has definitely had a replacement cylinder head which apears like a cheap re conditioned one which has recently been taken out and skimmed again as a cheap make do to sell. its very clean which suggests recent work.

No 3 cylinder has crack in it which would have blown at some time proberbly soon!

all seems a bit sly. anyway have located a brand new head, full gaskets and the works but its going to cost 1200 to put right

Still with a camping trip comming up on the bank holiday with my boy looks like I have little choice.

Ouch! £1200 sounds a lot even for a new head. Fine (ish) as long as they do a good job using a high quality replacement head though suppose.

Good luck. Life it seems is a bit like a game of Monopoly. Maybe we should do our own variation and call it Bongopoly

Aye, I seen complete engines for sale on ebay for around £850.(reconditioned+ warranted)

Thats for all the labour as well and gaskets oil and filter changes radiator flush etc etc.

Yup, bite the bullet, and expect a quality head and workmanship or else

I have gone for new head from a top company with full garentee etc so taking no chances.

my family loves the Bongo so much it is worth it . just wish I was spending 1200 on some thing else.........like beer

That's great to hear. You have to see them like a much loved pet and they give you similar pleasure, but sometimes they get unwell and it costs. But you wouldn't be without them. Somehow you sort out the finances. What I find so interesting now, with the cost of fuel is that if I - for example - decide to do a job on the Bongo (say fit a new radio) that keeps me from driving it around, the cost of the radio is substantially covered by the saving in fuel. Weird!! Oh and I've enjoyed myself just as much as if I'd just driven the Bongo around. This car is a great all round entertainer

We are back. Managed to get it all sorted for the Bank holiday weekend and me and the family had an Awesome time in the Bongo.

No Problems at all. A brilliant weekend camping, canoeing and it was great to have the bongo back in the fold

The worry and glances to the temp guage gradually receeded and every one was happy.

Really good to hear that Ritchie. "Brilliant weekend camping" !?! Either you were somewhere where the rain and gales weren't, or having the Bongo back has given you a rose tinted view

Only kidding - great its all mended and well again. I can't remember without looking back up this thread, but have you taken the necessary precautions (coolant alarm, engine block temp gauge)? Sorry to be boring.
