Happy to hear its sorted but, leaving the few second gap before firing up is usually the cure for lumpy starts due to knackered glowplugs.

You've got new ones. . . . :-k

There's still a problem somewhere.

Not neccessarily my little furry chum, the glowplug light is only an indication of glowplug operation, not a precise instrument in which glowplug duration can be accurately measured...

Thats not entirely what I meant BDC, the light going out just means the light has gone out. When one or more gps' become weak, they need a longer warm up, to fire up.

From cold if I crank it over as the light goes out I get a puff of black smoke & 10 seconds or so of ghastly lumpiness.

Hate that.

Leaving an extra 5-10 seconds before the final key turn always brings an instant, clean, crisp, sewing machine like smoothiness to life.

This, I believe is because I need a new set of plugs. (Somewhere in the Top Five of my To Do list.)

There have been many threads on here regarding this & new plugs seem to have sorted most.

The point I was attempting to offer was that despite bongomaan replacing the plugs, he still seems to have the problem lurking in the background. Either, its the relay or some other component that is at fault perhaps?

:?

Yep, i get exactly the same scenario as your good self...and my plugs are only a few months old  When my old plugs were on their way out, i had to use a "3 cycle" glowplug routine to get a smooth, clean start... :?

when i fitted them it started on the button straight after the light went out,so either relay or £28 gps offa ebay but definite improvement on fuel .

I'm following this with interest - when I start up from cold (after laving a suitable delay after the lights go out (heater lights, mine have been out for years  ) I get the diesely smelling smoke and lumpy running for about 30 secs then it is fine (a mate from work followed my one day last week and said that was no smoke at all from the exhaust - even though I was driving it hard at times) - I am considering having a look at the plugs to see if they are iffy - can you test them with either a multimeter or a megger???? or do they have to come out.
