It's not the dreaded valve in the exhaust is it?
the one for the cold climate system if yours has one.
The watch is most likely taking exception to the high
magnetic field from the alternator.

That's an idea. But I think Toms has 1 battery, so shouldn't be a cold climate Bongo, with the exhaust valve fitted.
When the valve jammed in the exhaust on our Bongo, it ran OK, not lumpy, but lost a bit of power and the fuel consumption was horrendous.
