Ok I think I have the answer, I purchased the Wireing diads from the Bongo shop and found the Side Lights, Fog lights and head lights all go through 3 relays located on the passsenger side under bonnet bulkhead. When the headlights are selected you hear the relay click and they work. Side lights relay does not click and neither does the fog light relay when switched on.
Before I had the battery changed I had to get a jump start. and I now think this has killed the two relays.
Just got to source two of these relays to prove it so will let you all know the result.

Ye Ha Success!!!!!!!!!
Its the relay - I swaped it out with another identical and it all works.
Anyone know where I can buy one H270 DC12v 20 amp Imasen 6E14.
A search on the net seems to say its a part also found on Ford Escorts heater fans.
Thank you one and all for your replies and to Bongo Fury for the Wireing Diags.

hmmn, just had a look as i have all the relays out of my old bongo and they are the same name ect but theres 2 types,
H270, dc12v20a, N.o imasen 51 09
3464-100-120 dc12v n.o imasen 5118
so if you have one of these relays the plugs are different to each other, so if you want to have a look or try it see if it works them, and get back to me

Did you manage to source relays?
My brother-in-law, is having the same problem, as in the tail/dash lights don't work. No.8 fuse is ok, so he might have the same fault? The poor guy only picked the bongo up this morning (500 miles away)
Cheers.

When I fused my side and tail lights I found a 15 amp fuse in a box of fuses under the bonnet, behind the air intake in the centre. The one marked 'Tail'. Changed that and all was OK.

Turned out nice again!

Yeah, I blown that one myself.
My B-I-L says the fuse is ok. I was wondering since he has just bought it today, (private sale) if the radio had been changed for the sale ( we have all done it?), and the wirings not great, could that cause the symptoms?
