Bongo Fury

OK, just dropped my van back off at MD Motors. Based on what I've told him, Mick's initial conclusion is that the engine we received from API Engines does not a thermostat. He's adamant that that the temperature gauge is reading true, but will check that in light of the fact that on the motorway the temp. gauge is registering cold, yet I'm still getting heat out of the fans (which I understand is possible). He has put it to me that he has experience of a number bongos with overheating problems that have been related to faulty thermostats and he recommends that I consider not putting one in their. Before I make a decision on this I'd like to again canvas the community for your opinions and will open a new thread (please do not post here but following the following link to the new thread)…..

PS. Thanks missfixit for the link to the temp. sensor. I think with even my limited knowledge I could pull this one off!!

No worries , I'd recommend fitting a mason alarm as well - http://www.townace.com/ie/ietemga2.htm - which is easy to fit, has a settable alarm & makes the bongo guage more sensitive as well, that way you're not nervously watcing the readout constantly . To cover just about all overheating eventualities, a coolant alarm is also a damn good idea IMO, if you fit all 3 it should be under £100, much cheaper & simpler than a new head or engine At least then if you put the stat back in & it has problems you'll know asap without it causing any damage.
