Thanks, I'll check the header tank/cap tomorrow and get the system checked at the garage ASAP.

You should not be needing to top up on a regular basis. As already said. Check the cap on the header tank and also the cap on the radiator. Other than that look for mist/spray around all hoses/metal pipes with the engine hot and running. Check all hose clips for weeping.

I've not heard of V6's having problems with the head gaskets/cylinder heads but the hoses are getting on a bit in many cases so the fitting of a coolant loss alarm can only make sense.
