Sorry for delay in replying - my Bongo checked out at Jap veh specialist and all glowplugs in fine order, they too could not say why the dash light stayed illuminated for a few seconds after the ignition fires up. It is still not causing any problems and as this is the first time they have seen this vehicle (was previously under warranty) they had a good look all through for me (they have done my vehicles for some time) and were very impressed with how up together it is for a 10 yr old veh - it had not used a drop of oil, even after using it all summer, including the terrible journey to Coventry in the floods and traffic jams, so I am all set for winter now (hopefully)

sorry to resurrect this one, but have just had the do da van mot'd (flew through no probs) but I mentioned again the glowlight coming back on after the ignition had started and that as I may be selling the vehicle this year I asked them to have a good look at the battery and electrics etc... even though they had looked at it before they agreed to re-visit and checked everything electrics-wise could find nothing wrong other than that the battery did not appear to be the correct size and could be a bit under-powered for the vehicle.. alternator was charging well and it wasn't too under parr, but I decided that as the mot had not cost me anything that I would bite the bullet and bought a really decent battery... surprise suprise the ignition light does NOT come back on again now.. so to all you guys out there that had the same problem... have a look at your batteries..

just a thought.......

if battery is a bit weak and you run glowplugs for say 10 secs, then crank and start the bongo....

could you drop the voltage (maybe a harmless spike) and then alternator starts to charge as you let off starter....and confuse the ECU into thinking the ignition has been turned on again and go through glowplug light sequence again...

it wouldn't affect the running of the engine, and PatnBen's description would also fit with this..... as it is not connected with the running and is an auxilliary function


(just had a read of Bongo ddv's answer above.... I think that makes it even more likely... an undersize battery probably hasn't got the cranking capacity)

Had the same little niggle with mine since I last changed the glowplugs about 14 months ago - have just changed them again tonight as one of the plugs has failed - will find out in the morning if the niggle has gone as it was too late to start the engine up tonight. Heres hopeing. :)

Haven't got my handbook handy, but cant remember - does the glowplug light have another warning function if it comes on once the engine is running? I know some of the warning lights have a second function
