Hi Ron, if you remove the plastic panel on the right of the drivers footwell, locate the red/yellow wire going to the white box, and snip it, then insulate to lose the standard reversing beepsronhud wrote:
It all seems to work fine but the Freda reversing beep is now a real nuisance. I've read lots of info on this forum about dealing with beeps - I'm more confused than ever since I only want to disable the reversing beep and not the others. And there seems to be differing opinions on where the beeping wires are located.

Depends on your circumstances. While they are an anoyance to some people the beeps are essential to others. I live in a cul-de-sac of thirty houses and very young childred play all over the road. Since it is practically impossible to see the road immediately behid the Bongo I would need some assistance to reverse out of my drive safely if it was not for the beeps.
Mike has the right option. The next owner of the Bongo might require the beeps. (God forbid me that I should sell mine).

I dont think the beeps are audible outside the car - they are just to let the driver know they are in reverse (in case the putting it in reverse and going backwards dont give the game away).
Why is snipping a wire irreversable - it is easy enough to join a wire back together if you need to. Either solder and heatshrink or crimped terminals will effect a permanent reunion.

You could crimp/solder male and female bullet connectors to the cut wire and have beeps on or off at your whim. If you were really bothered you could extend the wires to the dash and put a little beeper on/off switch on the console. If you go for connectors put the shrouded connector on the live side so it wont touch earth when disconnected.smartmonkey wrote:I dont think the beeps are audible outside the car - they are just to let the driver know they are in reverse (in case the putting it in reverse and going backwards dont give the game away).

SM - its not irreversible in the practical sense, but its the 'marring' of things I dislike. Also, the possibility of snipping the wrong wire and ending up with connectors I dont want etc. But yes, it probably has to be considered.
Whilst on bullet connectors, am I the only one who hates them. Short of buying expensive crimpers I'm finding it v difficult to get reliable crimping from either pliers of the cheap crimpers I bought. I waste 3 on average to get one result. For the amount of crimping I do, I resent having to buy an expensive crimping tool. There must be some better form of cheap connector surely. My local motor factor said 'no one uses them these days' but took a phone call before I could ask him what they do use these days

I use a Draper gas soldering iron (e-bay) with heatshrink sleeving heated with hot air gun . Very good joints and being gas doesnt pass any unwanted electric in the circuit. I cut the red/yellow wire in the drivers footwell and used heat shrink on the 2 ends. It is possible to extend these wires up to a switch somewhere then you can choose to have beeeps a the touch of a switch. How do we divide this thread up to Masons and Beeps.
