Twin coil ?

Post by ford tinny » Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:07 pm

Hello all, Iv'e just purchased Twin coil glow plugs. They say that these are far better than standard glow plugs. Has anybody fitted these and if so do they do what it says on the tin!
Thanks John (ford tinny)

No where I've found lists any alternatives to the one above.

What rail is modified? The power supply or what? and how is it modified.

Yep ,the insulated connector in some cases can arc onto the engine, causing the fuse to repeatedly blow, spacing the rail with washers can offer more clearance. This scenario occurs when shorter plugs are fitted to bongo's that originally had the longer plugs.

Longer glowplugs were a temporary "fix" by mazda when 83mm plugs were hard to source,a series of bolts was incorporated by mazda to adjust the height of the glowplug rail.

Thanks Mick.
Are NGK Y701J plugs 83mm?
How long have these lasted in your Bongo?

Hi Alan

They are 85mm - standard I think. Measurements can be seen by clicking on link

Lasted 2 years so far. Always used NGK for bikes and cars. I really don't expect to have problems with them.

with the diferences in length of the glow plug ie; 103mm/ 83mm does the reach of the plug inside the cylinder head remain the same?

my freda is a 4wd sgl5 with 103mm plugs.
need to know if the 83mm ones fit without too much hassle?

To find the length of the Glow Plugs that will fit your Bongo, you will first have to find out the Bongos vin Number which can be found on the drivers door. Then look up the fact sheet on Glow Plugs in the members section.
